Assistant Principal
From the Desk of Dr. Andrea DeCaires, Assistant Principal
Dear PS140Q Ellington Magnet Community,
I am honored to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal of PS140Q, Ellington Magnet School. It is with great excitement and deep commitment that I join this vibrant community of educators, students, and families. I look forward to collaborating with you as we continue to build on the strong foundation of excellence that defines our school.
At the heart of our work this year is our shared instructional focus: To collaboratively design rigorous, relevant, and coherent units of study by leveraging the Next Generation Learning Standards and our 5 Magnet Pillars—Diversity, Innovative Curriculum, Professional Development, Academic Excellence, and Family & Community Partnerships. Through this work, our aim is to ensure that all students are deeply connected to their learning and are engaged in meaningful, student-centered experiences.
As Assistant Principal, my goal is to support the implementation of this vision by:
- Supporting teachers in delivering explicit instruction and utilizing data-informed practices to meet the diverse needs of our learners;
- Collaborating with educators to create and refine units of study that foster academic excellence across all content areas;
- Enhancing family and community partnerships by ensuring our families have meaningful opportunities to participate in their children’s learning journey;
- Strengthening professional development opportunities to grow our collective capacity and support new teachers in their instructional practice;
- Uplifting the whole child through social-emotional learning initiatives that nurture both academic and personal growth.
I believe that when educators, students, and families work together in partnership, we create the conditions for every child to thrive. I am excited to embark on this journey with you and look forward to a successful and inspiring school year.
Warm regards,
Dr. Andrea DeCaires-Vengersammy
