P.S. 140Q Cell Phone/Electronic Device Protocol

To ensure that P.S. 140Q provides a safe environment for all members of the school community, students must know their rights and responsibilities in regard to cyber safety and are expected to comply with the school cell phone/electronic device protocol.

The following protocol is consistent with the Chancellor’s Regulation A-413. It is also consistent with the school’s values of Self-control, Trustworthiness, Accountability, Respect, and Service.

Cellphones and other Electronic devices that are brought to school must be used strictly within the following guidelines.

  1. Cell Phones/Electronic devices cannot be used during the school day, this includes Breakfast time, lunchtime and recess, including the restrooms.
  2. All Cell Phones/Electronic Devices must be switched off and out of sight upon immediately entering the building
  3. Cell Phones/Electronic devices cannot be used to violate another person’s right to privacy.
  4. Students must take responsibility for all Cell Phones/Electronic Devices brought to school. The school accepts no responsibility in the event of loss, theft, or damage to any Cell Phone/Electronic Device.
  5. If a Cell Phone/Electronic device is brought to school the student must accept responsibility for adhering to this protocol and the safety of his/her Cell Phone/Electronic Device.
  6. If the Cell Phone/Electronic Device is used contrary to this protocol it is understood that the student will be sent to the office where the Cell Phone/Electronic Device will be confiscated until 3:05 PM and a parent notified.

1st Offense – The device will remain in the Administrative office until the end of the school day and a warning given to student. Student may pick up the device at the end of the day.

2nd Offense – The device will remain in the office until the end of the school day and lunch detention will be assigned along with parent contact. Student may pick up device at the end of the school day.

3rd Offense - The device will remain in the office until a parent meeting. Device may only be picked up by a parent/guardian.

The staff of P.S. 140Q requests your full cooperation with our policy. In the event of an immediate emergency please call the school at 718-657-4760.

The school has zero tolerance to all forms of bullying, including cyber-bullying via cellphone or social media. It is therefore understood that the Cell Phone/Electronic device will not be used to intimidate, harass or bully another member of the school community and any misuses will result in disciplinary action.
