Ellington Magnet @ PS 140Q Instructional Focus and Principal Priorities

Instructional Focus:

In alignment with the Chancellor’s Instructional Principles and District 28 Foci and Priorities If we continue to unpack and utilize the Next Generation Learning Standards and 5 Magnet Pillars (Diversity, Innovative Curriculum, Professional Development, Academic Excellence, High-Quality Instructional Systems, and Family and Community Partnerships) to collaboratively design rigorous, relevant, coherent units of study then:

  • Students will make a deeper connection to their learning through effective guided reading practices, intentional use of vocabulary across all content areas, and engaging in student-centered discussions using discussion protocols.
  • Teachers will engage students across grade levels by data-supporting grouping.
  • Families will engage in workshops and learning opportunities that will enable their voices to be part of the instructional foci of the school.

Principal’s Priority (ies)/Focus:

  • To create a place of learning that will explore and provide for every aspect of students’ capacities for learning by developing a broad, challenging and engaging curriculum .
  • To provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the twenty-first century.
  • Educate the “whole child” through SEL initiatives. Build emotional balance and resilience in students.
  • Foster and encourage communication, understanding and participation of the entire school community to enhance educational partnerships.
